The new standard for building residential and commercial buildings are focusing more on green building practices and energy conservation practices. Green building practices include using solar panels, wind turbines, energy efficient appliances, and incorporates new building methods and materials reducing toxic chemicals in materials and waste through the construction phase. Another great way to conserve energy and save money is to use a tankless hot water heater, they save you money by only heating water as needed and this also helps conserve energy.

Using on-site renewable energy and energy efficent appliances lessens our impact on the enviroment while also saving potentially thousands of dollars a year in energy. Depending on where you live, in warmer climates solar panels can produce enough electricity to heat and cool your home and supply all your appliances. Even in less warmer climates solar panels can reduce your electric bill by 50% or more. In some cases people having solar panels or wind turbines, and produced more electricity than they used for that month recieved a check from there electric company.

With the world population approaching seven billion people it is critical now more then ever to promote enviromental awarness. If every one recycled and used energy star qualified compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL), would save enough electricity and resources to power millions of homes. Did you know incandescent light bulbs are only 10% efficient, that means 90% of the electricity it uses is being wasted.

The Department of Energy on its website, www.energystar.gov says
“If every American home replaced just one light bulb with an Energy Star-qualified bulb, we would save enough energy to light more than 3 million homes for a year, more than $600 million in annual energy costs, and prevent greenhouse gases equivalent to the emissions of more than 800,000 cars,”.
